Camino de Santiago - Day 10
Santo Domingo was born in 1019. Today we toured the Cathedral that he built as well as the sweet town that has grown around it. Santo Domingo wanted become a Monk and was rejected by the monastery because he was illiterate. Instead – he dedicated his life to assisting those walking the Camino de Santiago by first building a wooden bridge so Peregrinos would not have to walk through the river, followed by a hospital, and the church which grew into the lavish present day Cathedral.
From here we traveled by bus from Santo Domingo de la Calzada to Artupuerca where we visited the site of the earliest human remains ever discovered in Europe in prehistoric caves. As I write this we are tucked in to a tiny room in a small Inn that had a warm fire going to welcome us at the end of this rainy day.
